Monday 12 August was a high note for the Mornington Peninsula’s music community as the Shire hosted its much-anticipated Music Industry Summit.
Held across five venues in Mornington, the event hit all the right notes, bringing together musicians, venue operators, and industry pros, all eager to make some noise.
The day was full of excitement as some of the biggest names in the Australian music scene took the stage. Frontier Touring’s Gerard Schlaghake, OzTix’s Brad Hinds, renowned singer-songwriter Katie Noonan, powerhouse rocker Dallas Frasca, and Something for Kate’s Clint Hyndman were just a few of the industry heavyweights who tuned in to share their wisdom.
From the latest trends to new opportunities, attendees were all ears, soaking up invaluable insights through dynamic workshops and lively panel discussions.
The panels tackled hot topics like the struggle for national radio airplay, the challenges of keeping festivals in play, and the hurdles in getting tickets to sell – issues that struck a chord with everyone in the room.
Meanwhile, songwriting workshops drew a diverse crowd, including eager students from Advance College and Flinders Christian Community College, as well as budding and seasoned artists ready to hit their stride.
One of the day’s highlights was the Hot Seat sessions, where over 50 industry professionals, including representatives from Music Victoria, One Music, MP Regional Tourism, and Impakt FreeZA, offered one-on-one advice. It was a rare opportunity for local talent to tap into the minds of the industry’s best and fine-tune their craft.
But perhaps the summit’s most resonant moment came from Gerard Schlaghake, who, after a decade away from Mornington, was blown away by the vibrant energy he felt throughout the day. He said: “Musically, you can feel something is definitely happening in the Shire right now. I’ll be back!”
His words struck a perfect note, capturing the spirit of the summit – something truly special is brewing in the Peninsula’s music scene, and it’s only getting louder!
