Sunshine Coast Hinterland Voted Second Best Road Trip in Queensland

The Sunshine Coast Hinterland has captured the imaginations of Queensland motorists, having been voted the second-best road trip in Queensland.

The winning two-hour trip spans from Brisbane to Montville, winding past the Glass House Mountains, Maleny and Montville in a trip that highlights the Hinterland’s star tourist attractions.

The findings were released by RACQ, after it ran a two-month campaign in its Road Ahead magazine to determine Queensland’s Top 10 Road Trips.

Coming in first place was the Pacific Coast Way drive which also includes the Sunshine Coast region, as it runs along the east coast of Queensland from Brisbane to Cairns.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson said the region has some magnificent national attractions.

“We’re very proud of our region’s reputation as an outstanding location for visitors,” he said.

“We have the perfect combination of natural attractions and major events to keep all in the family satisfied.

“And we also offer a fantastic food trail to taste the freshest produce and fine foods our region has to offer with our new ‘The Curated Plate’ food experience coming up in August which will see more road trips to our beautiful hinterland than ever before.”

Visit Sunshine Coast CEO Simon Latchford said the Sunshine Coast Hinterland offered motorists a unique visitor experience with no traffic, uninterrupted views and plenty of places for motorists to stop and explore along the way.

“There’s something special about driving through the Sunshine Coast Hinterland,” he said.

“Around every turn you are met with expansive views that either stretch down to the coast or across the ancient Glass House Mountains.

“Drivers looking to make the most of their road trip are spoilt with places to stop, be it Maleny’s Maple St, a walk through Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve or stopping in at Montville to explore the Kondalilla ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Park.

“No road trip to the hinterland would be complete without visiting one of the many art galleries, dining in at an award-winning restaurant to sample local produce or picking up a picnic hamper of Hinterland cheese to enjoy in one of the many parks.

“Visitors taking the road trip from Brisbane may also stay the night in one of the boutique bed and breakfasts or luxury accommodation providers.”

RACQ Publishing Managing Editor Deb Eccleston said they compiled the Top 10 Road Trips based on popular travel routes that included short weekend drives, challenging off-road tracks and long-distance adventures.

“Queenslanders are attracted to the Sunshine Coast because if offers the hinterland, the beach, some of the best wineries and events,” Ms Eccleston said.
