Community sporting clubs will soon enjoy new and upgraded facilities at Olinda Recreation Reserve, thanks to support from the Andrews Labor Government.
Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence today joined Member for Monbulk Daniela De Martino and Yarra Ranges Shire Council Mayor Cr Jim Child to officially launch the next phase of works on the Olinda Precinct Plan, made possible by a $7.6 million investment by the Labor Government.
The project will upgrade the existing netball court and build a new netball court and four-wicket cricket training facility, creating more opportunities for local clubs to train and compete. The new courts will be complete with LED court light and shelter – allowing more teams to use the facilities day or night.
³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ to the Olinda Ferny Creek Football Netball Club and Olinda Cricket Club – these new practice spaces and competition courts will boost the number of local community members that can take part in the sporting club activities.
This project will benefit the entire community – improving health and wellbeing of club members, stimulating the local economy and creating five new local jobs during the construction phase.
This phase of works will complement the recently completed upgrades to the Olinda sporting oval and nature-based playscape with picnic facilities, that were delivered under the Olinda Precinct Plan.
Since 2014, the Labor Government has invested more than $1.6 billion in community sport and active recreation infrastructure.
