Support For Veterans Boosted By Almost $1.3 Million

  • Ex-service organisations share in $1,289,990 via the 2024 ANZAC Day Trust Grants program
  • RSL WA and Working Spirit receive $573,595 to continue their employment and transition services program
  • Legacy WA receives $422,439 to commence two 3-year projects aimed at supporting the families of veterans

The Cook Government has awarded over $1.2 million in funding from the ANZAC Day Trust Grants program to six ex-service organisations.

Recipient organisations will use the grant money for projects such as providing veteran housing and accommodation support, employment transition services and respite programs.

RSL WA and Working Spirit receive nearly $600,000 in 2nd-year funding after successfully demonstrating the benefit of their Veterans Employment Program. This program includes the development and growth of the Transition Employment Portal, an online portal connecting employers with job-seeking veterans.

Legacy WA will receive more than $400,000 to commence the Living Independently Program and the Respite Program. Both of these programs build on Legacy WA’s continued commitment to supporting the families of veterans in Western Australia.

The Royal Australian Air Force Association of Western Australia (RAAFA WA) receives $18,901 to assist with their veteran housing and accommodation support program at Sir Valston Hancock House. This project was made possible through a generous donation from Hancock Prospecting. All nine units are currently occupied, demonstrating the need for veteran housing support in Western Australia.

This year has also seen funding allocated to support the HMAS Perth (I) Memorial with over $76,000 to complete the project. The HMAS Perth (I) Memorial is set to be unveiled early next year.

The State Government has previously provided more than $530,000 through the ANZAC Day Trust, plus a $5 million grant through Lotterywest to assist with the development of the Andrew Russell Veteran Living (ARVL) program for the first time in WA.

ARVL will provide emergency accommodation for veterans at risk of homelessnessand wrap-around supports.

As stated by Defence Industry and Veterans Issues Minister Paul Papalia:

“The WA Government is committed to supporting ex-service personnel and their families with their transition back to civilian life.

“By providing funds to vital programs, such as employment transition services and housing, we are ensuring we take care of those who protected us.

“I’m proud to be part of a Government that has increased our contribution to the ANZAC Day Trust to almost $1.3 million per year. This has resulted in more than $5 million being distributed over the past three years to support veteran wellbeing.”
