Wyndham City’s Community Centres are rallying to support people experiencing homelessness and raise awareness of the impact of homelessness.
³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾lessness Week, from Monday 7 August to Sunday 13 August, is an annual campaign coordinated by ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾lessness Australia to raise awareness of the impact of homelessness in Australia.
In the lead-up to ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾lessness Week, Wyndham City is coordinating a donation drive, collecting long-life food and personal care items at most community centres.
Locals are also invited to pop into a centre to help make origami paper houses which will be collected and displayed at Parliament House to raise awareness of the 30,000 Victorians enduring homelessness.
During ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾lessness Week, Wyndham City’s Community Centres will host three events, including a film screening of Under Cover, an Australian documentary sharing the lives of an eclectic group of women over 50 experiencing homelessness.
Wyndham will also host a Community Morning Tea at Manor Lakes Community Learning Centre and a Community Dinner at Dianella Community Centre. Both events will feature a panel of H3 Alliance guest speakers, and everyone will help bundle dignity packs of donated items.
Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Susan McIntyre, said: “Consistently, our community demonstrates generosity and care for those experiencing hardship.”
