Support Received for Social Inclusion

Latrobe City Council is one of five councils to receive Victorian Government funding for a new state-wide initiative to promote community connection and inclusion and support mental health and wellbeing.

The funding will support a new Social Inclusion Action Group – as recommended by the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.

The group is being established as it has been recognised that communities are best placed to understand and drive local social connection and inclusion efforts.

Community initiatives – developed by locals for locals – will be provided funding to foster this support.

The Social Inclusion Action Group will work with the community to identify challenges and opportunities, supporting them to take action to support mental health across Latrobe.

Mayor of Latrobe City, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan looked forward to seeing the group being established.

“Council is grateful to the Victorian Government for their support to establish a Social Inclusion Action Group right here in Latrobe City.

“Supporting the mental health of our people is vital, ensuring they have a strong connection to community and the networks around them. This group will provide opportunities for locals to foster strong connections as best determined by our community.

“We look forward to seeing the group come together and the opportunities it will bring for community members,” said the Mayor.
