Supporting graduates through their rotations

“Aurizon’s Graduate Program has given me the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. I relocated from Sydney to Rockhampton in February 2018 to take up the graduate position of Rotational Civil Engineer in Aurizon’s Network business. Moving to a regional hub like Rockhampton continues to provide me with learning opportunities across the vast Central Queensland Coal Network.

My first rotation was in the Network Asset Management and Engineering team where I worked in a team of four that inspects and manages the condition of civil assets, and ensures our district is operationally viable. I enjoy being a part of a highly motivated team working towards a common goal and having the chance to learn from senior engineers in my field.

I love what I do; the tasks and challenges are always changing and evolving, which keeps the job exciting. On average, I spend 1-2 days a week out in the field and I enjoy the flexibility of working on site and in the office as part of my role.

Since relocating to Rockhampton, I have been exposed to diverse and challenging work, peer support and fantastic mentoring and training opportunities. I have been getting involved with the local community by joining the tennis team. It’s been a great way stay fit and spend time with friends and family.

Aurizon’s strong safety culture, the challenging and diverse work and the Graduate Development Program have been the most impressive part of working at Aurizon. There are many career development opportunities at Aurizon with the wide range of specialist services such as rail design, engineering, construction, management and maintenance.

My second rotation commenced in January 2019. I’m currently working as a Site Engineer in the Infrastructure Delivery team and am looking forward to the journey ahead.

I would encourage anyone in Engineering to consider a career in the rail industry with Aurizon.”
