Elise Archer,Minister for the Arts
Our Government is committed to supporting the growth and development of our cultural and creative industries that adds to our economy and supports thousands of jobs across Tasmania.
That’s why we are investing in the development of Tasmanian story-telling talent to foster new creative concepts within our local screen industry, with Screen Tasmania’s Project Development program helping to build Tasmanian projects and advance them into production.
As Minister for the Arts, I am excited to announce that five projects will share $85,000 through the latest round of Project Development funding.
Supported projects include Flat Earthers, a comedy series from the team behind Australia’s Best Street Racer YouTube series; Black Eyed Kids, a drama series set in Sheffield in Tasmania’s North West, from the team behind The Gloaming; and an adaptation for screen of the award-winning Tasmanian novel Flames, a supernatural family drama written by Hobart local Robbie Arnott.
This latest round of Project Development funding will support projects to get their cameras rolling and contribute to the growing number of screen productions filming in Tasmania.
Pleasingly, this round of funding includes Tasmanian creatives working with established international companies such as Jungle Entertainment and Made-Up Stories, increasing the likelihood of the projects proceeding into production.
The Tasmanian Government’s ongoing commitment to Tasmanian screen production, through Screen Tasmania, has enabled the screen industry to build its capacity and develop new stories and service production, ensuring Tasmania’s unique stories, landscapes, people and creatures continue to intrigue, engage and entertain audiences around the world.
