The Andrews Labor Government will donate $1 million to this year’s Good Friday Appeal – supporting the lifesaving and lifechanging work of the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Health Mary- Anne Thomas today attended Kids Day Out at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre – a family day packed with amusement, activities and entertainment helping to raise funds for the Appeal.
In what has become an annual Easter tradition in Victoria, more than $421 million has been raised in donations to deliver the best possible care to patients and their families since the Appeal began in 1931.
Donations go towards ground-breaking research, world-class equipment and technology, patient and family centred care programs, and fostering staff excellence through education programs, scholarships and fellowships to attract and retain the brightest minds.
In 2022, the Appeal broke records by raising more than $22 million – a powerful demonstration of the entire Victorian community coming together to support a worthwhile cause.
Providing care to the community for over 150 years, the world-renowned hospital is Victoria’s major specialist paediatric hospital and extends care to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas. It is also home to the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ly Funded Centres for cardiac and liver transplantation.
Thanks to the Good Friday Appeal, the RCH attracts the best clinicians from around Australia and the world and supports world leading research at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and the University of Melbourne’s Department of Paediatrics.
As stated by Premier Daniel Andrews
“Almost every Victorian has a special and deeply personal connection to the Royal Children’s Hospital – it’s an Easter tradition for Victorians to dig deep and donate so our beloved hospital can continue its incredible work.”
“As one of the world’s leading children’s hospitals, money donated to the Good Friday Appeal supports research, equipment, education, training and patient care – providing the very best care for the children in our community.”
As stated by Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas
“I encourage all Victorians who can make a donation – be it big or small – to get behind this amazing fundraising event, so the Royal Children’s Hospital can continue to deliver the remarkable work it does.”
