Young and emerging creatives across Tasmania are set to get a boost from a new competitive funding program aimed at providing support towards professional development activities.
The Tasmanian Government’s Young and Emerging Artist Professional Development Program will offer funding of $160,000 over two years.
Each round will offer five grants of $16,000 for artists and art workers who are either aged 25 or under or are in their first five years of professional practice at the time applications close.
Minister for the Arts and Heritage, Madeleine Ogilvie, said support for Tasmanian artists and arts workers in the early stages of their career was critical to their long-term success.
“Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is delivering creative sector opportunities across the state, so we need to have programs that nurture our young and emerging creatives and allow them to flourish,” said Minister Ogilvie.
“Our Young and Emerging Artist Professional Development Program will provide financial support so these young artists and arts workers can build the foundations for a successful career.
“We are proud to continue support for our cultural and creative industries, and the incredible diversity and calibre of work coming out of our state.
Grant funds can be used towards a range of professional and skills development activities including local, national, or international residencies, mentorships, and masterclasses.
The first round will support activities occurring after 1 August 2025 and the program will be offered in 2024 and 2025.
The guidelines are now available on the Arts Tasmania website and applications will open later this year.
