A new partnership between the University of Tasmania and Kina Bank will help build the capabilities of the next generation of business leaders and deliver new opportunities in Papua New Guinea.
As part of this partnership, the Tasmanian School of Business and Economics (TSBE) will deliver tailored courses to Kina Bank to meet local needs in areas such as leadership capability development, sustainable business, and green banking.
The Executive Dean of the College of Business and Economics, Professor Stuart Crispin, said the partnership represents an opportunity to support businesses in the region and share the University of Tasmania’s distinctive expertise in sustainable business.
“As the world faces ongoing social, economic, and environmental challenges, we believe that business can be part of the solution, and we demonstrate this in our approach to teaching.
“By approaching sustainability as a core component of business instead of an accessory, we aim to future-proof the next generation of leaders in Australia and internationally with the knowledge and practical skills to champion sustainable business.”
“We’re proud to partner with Kina Bank to help develop the future business leaders of Papua New Guinea and deliver high-quality, contemporary and relevant courses from our island to theirs.”
The next generation of business professionals will be required to address environmental and social impacts on the path to creating sustainable businesses. The TSBE is equipping them to do this.
Kina Bank was established in 1985 as a diversified financial service company and has a strong focus on supporting the growth and prosperity of Papua New Guinea.
Greg Pawson, Kina Bank’s Managing Director & CEO, said that it is through investing in people and supporting the future leaders of Papua New Guinea that Kina Bank finds its strength.
“People are the cornerstone of our success, and as we continue to grow as a leading digital bank in PNG, it is important that we nurture and support the growth of our emerging leaders.”
“People development remains a key focus for Kina Bank, especially given the Bank’s vision to expand into the Pan Pacific region. We are so proud to partner with the University of Tasmania to help us drive that vision through this program.”
Initially, 15 students from Kina Bank’s staff will undertake the tailor-made Graduate Certificate of Business Studies course, which will include additional study opportunities and a visit to Tasmania for the highest achieving student.
