Designed to have a strong sustainability focus, the Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre will be the first public aquatic facility in Victoria to incorporate a geothermal heating system.
One of the unique features of the $57 million dollar centre, the geothermal heating system will assist in providing sustainable and cheaper heating to the swimming pools and air in the buildings.
Utilising the newly constructed production bore to tap into the aquifer below Traralgon, at a depth of more than 600 metres underground where the water is around 68 degrees Celsius, the system will utilise the heat energy from the water to heat the separately circulated pool water through a heat exchanger.
With the production bore complete, operational drilling works have commenced for the second phase of the scope of works. The construction of the injection bore is occurring further along Kay Street, Traralgon with these works expected to take approximately three months to complete.
During these works residents may experience increased levels of noise. Residents are advised that drilling activities will take place within the Environment Protection Authority Victoria permitted noise guidelines.
