Stonnington Libraries continue to bring interesting, educational, fun and often free events to our community.
Coming up in November we have Caring for your indoor plants and Composting and worm farming for beginners workshops.
Caring for your indoor plants
Indoor plants are a great addition to any home but can sometimes be tricky to care for. Not all houseplants need the same type of TLC so it’s important to know what your plant needs to thrive indoors.
Join us online for a crash course on indoor plant care. Passionate gardener Kaye Roberts-Palmer will discuss how to care for your indoor plants, including seasonal requirements, positioning and lighting, watering dos and don’ts, pests to watch out for and more.
This is a ZOOM event and bookings are required. To join you’ll need an internet-enabled computer, tablet or smartphone. A meeting link and ID will be sent to the email address you registered with one hour before the session starts.
2 November, 7pm to 8pm
Composting and worm farming for beginners
Food scraps and garden waste make up a huge portion of what many households throw into home garbage bins.
In this session, you’ll learn how to take these raw materials to feed your garden, enrich the soil and help the environment.
Presented by Sustainable Gardening Australia, the session will cover composting, bokashi and worm farming. We’ll share a compost recipe and discuss common problems and solutions.
25 November, 10.30am to 12pm
Bookings are required for every attendee.

Seed Libraries still growing strong
The innovative program has been encouraging people to borrow seed packets to plant and grow in their own home gardens, and then share them with other library members to build their gardening knowledge.
Since introducing the program in early 2022, we now have 1156 members who’ve joined and, 6483 individual seed packets have been borrowed.
From the community’s (seed) donations made, that is – seeds returned to the libraries – Stonnington has successfully created 2597 individual seed packets that have been added back into the Seed Library collection for members to take home and grow.
It’s easy to get involved. Join by first becoming a Seed Library member; drop into any of our four libraries, borrow up to three packets of seeds each month, plant and grow these in your home garden, collect the seeds harvested and return these to your local library.
