Bringing together cultures from around the globe, Swinburne’s World Kitchen event celebrated the strength of diversity and inclusion.
Running each year, celebrates the cultural diversity of the Swinburne student community and the joy of sharing food with others.
At the event, student teams cook dishes that celebrate their cultural backgrounds to share with the Swinburne community.

Cooking up some culture
Speaking at the event, outlined Swinburne’s continued support of diversity in all of the university’s activities.
“Swinburne is proud to celebrate all the religious and cultural backgrounds that make up our community, not only on days like today but in all facets of university life,” she said.
“Every day, we aim to make each individual within our diverse community feel a sense of belonging and encourage those from diverse backgrounds to share your cultures. Social inclusion is part of who we are and we strive to make everyone at Swinburne feel welcome.”
Five student teams contributed to the World Kitchen event.
This year the dishes from the five student teams included:
- Beijing style noodles from China
- ‘Puff-Puff’ traditional dish from Nigeria
- Dolma from Iraq
- Gado-Gado from Indonesia
- Chicken Kottu from Sri Lanka
Swinburne staff and students were invited to share in the celebration.
Cultural Diversity Week
Swinburne World Kitchen followed Swinburne’s involvement as a patron sponsor of the Victorian Multicultural Commission’s , from 16-24 March.
At the end of the week, Swinburne staff and students took part in at Federation Square, promoting a message of inclusiveness as part of a day incorporating different cultural food, music, art, design and dancing.
Swinburne staff and students also took part in celebrations at Federation Square during Cultural Diversity Week.
Swinburne is also co-presenting the and is currently seeking entries. Short listed entries will be screened at ACMI on Thursday 23 May 2019.
