Sydney man arrested for multiple firearms and drug offences

A 40-year-old Sydney man is due to face Parramatta Court today after being charged with firearms and drug offences.

Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers apprehended the man yesterday (30 July) following an investigation into allegations that he was storing illicit goods inside a rented storage unit.

Further enquiries revealed that the man had allegedly emptied the storage and moved the contents elsewhere.

Officers attended the man’s residential premises where they seized a firearm, a replica firearm, approximately $50,000 in cash, drug manufacturing paraphernalia and a crystalline substance believed to be heroin. The 40-year-old man was not located at the scene.

The man was subsequently located at another residence in Cabramatta where he was arrested with assistance from New South Wales Police. He was conveyed to Fairfield Police Station where he was charged with the following state offences:

  • Two counts of unauthorised possession or use of pistols or prohibited firearms, contrary to section 7 of the Firearms Act 1996 (NSW)
  • One count of possess unregistered firearm (pistol), contrary to section 36 (1) of the Firearms Act 1996 (NSW)
  • Two counts of fail to keep firearm safe, contrary to section 30 of the Firearms Act 1996 (NSW)
  • One count of possess a prohibited drug (heroin), contrary to section 10 of the Drug Misuse and Trafficking Act 1985 (NSW)

Further testing will be conducted on the substances located at the premises to determine the exact weight and purity.
