TAC grants to help improve shire road safety

Two grant applications from Northern Grampians Shire Council to the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) have been successful, which will help make the shire’s roads safer.

A $30,000 grant from the TAC Community Road Safety Grants Program will go towards a Rural Roads Safety Plan for council.

The project will enable the development of a Rural Roads Safety Plan, which will be completed in close consultation and engagement with farmers and rural residents of Northern Grampians Shire.

The plan will have a community focus to capture current issues, areas for improvement and provide a program of potential future works.

This will help ensure that council continues to implement the most effective road safety measures on our roads.

A $25,080 grant from the TAC Local Government Grants for Small Scale Infrastructure Program will go towards a child pedestrian and cyclist safety analysis around three schools in St Arnaud, which includes St Arnaud Primary School, St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School and St Arnaud Secondary College.

The process from here will include a road safety consultant meeting with these schools to discuss their current issues and concerns, undertake necessary field works and analysis against standard practice, and then determine what improvements will create a better and safer situation for all.

The results of this project will provide the groundwork for potential future road safety measures, treatments and concept designs for each school to improve the safety of children and parents going to and from school.

Mayor of Northern Grampians Shire Council, Cr Kevin Erwin said, “We’d like to thank the TAC for these important grants and the studies that will come out of them.”
