High impact projects continue to be delivered through the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program, with Port Lincoln’s first-ever dog park now open at Puckridge Place.
The $161,000 project, fully funded by the Australian Government, was an initiative fuelled by strong community support, and injects vitality into what was a tired and run-down space.
The dog park provides a dedicated space for residents to exercise dogs of all sizes in a safe, off-leash environment – featuring a 1.8-metre-high mesh security fence.
Two entry and exit points, litter bins and dog waste disposal stations, and a dog-friendly
drinking fountain have all been incorporated into the space to make it a more enjoyable experience for two and four-legged visitors alike.
New trees and plants have been added to create an enriching experience for both dogs and their owners, with existing large trees at the site retained to maintain a cool ambiance to the area.
A new undercover area has also been introduced for shelter, including picnic bench seating.
For our canine companions, a repurposed stormwater pipe and fallen tree logs have been incorporated into the park, offering natural activities and obstacles, including a contoured area adding visual interest to the enclosure.
The LRCI program supports councils across Australia to deliver local road and community infrastructure projects, creating jobs and fostering long-lasting benefits in communities.
