Rockhampton residents can pull on their walking shoes and head out to explore one of the great outdoor areas that received an upgrade through Council’s recently completed $149,000 footpath renewal program.
Councillor Cherie Rutherford, Chair of Council’s Parks Committee, said that the footpath renewal program is a wonderful investment in our region’s parks.
“Under this program we have renewed the footpath along Murray and Yeppen Lagoons and improved sections of the footpath in Koongal’s Ollie Smith Park,” said Cr Rutherford.
“We have also installed new footpath in Frenchville’s Apex Park.
“These are all great outdoor areas that get a lot of use, and much of this work was requested by the community.
“The footpath along Murray and Yeppen Lagoons sees hundreds of people turn out on Saturday mornings alone to pound the pavement for Park Run, which is now even more enjoyable along this section.
“At Apex Park the new footpath links Fitzgerald and Berserker Streets, making it easier for kids and parents walking to and from school or heading out to explore the park’s great new pirate themed playground.
“It gives us great pleasure at Council to deliver projects like this that improve our outdoor spaces.”
“These may seem like small projects, but a nice footpath can go a long way in encouraging people to get out for a stroll and enjoy some of the fantastic areas our region has to offer.”
