Taking Tasmanian Businesses Into Future

Eric Abetz, Minister for Transport

The Tasmanian Government’s new Advanced Technology Industries Strategy will strengthen the state’s credentials in cutting-edge science and technology, future-proofing our economy and strengthening our key industries.

Minister for Business, Industry and Resources, Eric Abetz, said today’s meeting with peak bodies and industry leaders was an opportunity to hear how technology is impacting their sectors, while identifying challenges and opportunities to support innovation and drive economic growth.

“An important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is creating the jobs we need to ensure that Tasmania remains the best state to live, work and raise a family,” said Minister Abetz.

“Today’s meeting represents the first step towards developing a whole-of-government strategy to assist industries in harnessing rapid advances in science and technology.

“We have much to offer, including fields like space object tracking and communications, satellite remote sensing, deep sea and coastal observation, autonomous vessels and renewable energy systems.

“We want to elevate Tasmania’s technology industry profile and brand on the global stage; our strategic advantages and technology capabilities will enable us to grow knowledge-based exports and attract major investment to the state.

“I am looking forward to further insightful discussions and valuable input from industry as we work collaboratively towards developing a Strategy that benefits all Tasmanians.”
