Tas wins big at national Science and Engineering Challenge

The ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ finals of the Science and Engineering Challenge (SEC) were held in Darwin this October.

The Challenge is a nationwide STEM outreach program presented by the University of Newcastle in partnership with communities, Rotary clubs, universities and sponsors.

Launceston Christian School were one of 51 schools across Tasmania who competed in 2018 which involved six statewide heats during May, which culminated with a finale at the University of Tasmania’s Newnham campus on Tuesday, 5 June.

After winning the state Challenge, they moved on to take the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Title in Darwin with a score of 1320.20. Second place went to Whitefriars College from Victoria with a score of 1178.96, and Darwin High School came a close third with 1140.82 points.

The Science and Engineering Challenge in Tasmania is run by the University of Tasmania’s College of Sciences and Engineering Outreach and Engagement Team.
