Task Force Magnus detectives charge man over investigation into shots fired in Lidcombe – Strike Force Lovelock

Task Force Magnus detectives have charged a man following an investigation into shots fired in Lidcombe earlier this year.

Task Force Magnus was established in July to target and disrupt gun-related and violent crime and to investigate links between recent organised criminal activity in Sydney.

Just before 10pm on Wednesday 19 July 2023, officers attached to Auburn Police Area Command responded to reports of an aggravated home invasion on Raymond Street West in Lidcombe.

On arrival, police were told three men – armed with firearms – forced their way into a property where they fired a number of shots and assaulted a 31-year-old man inside. They fled the scene shortly after.

The 31-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for minor injuries. A 30-year-old woman, 68-year-old man and 18-month-old baby – who were also inside the property at the time – were uninjured.

About 8am on Thursday 20 July 2023, officers attached to Liverpool Police Area Command responded to reports of a vehicle alight on Ascot Drive in Chipping Norton.

The car was allegedly stolen with cloned number plates and is being treated as linked to the incident in Lidcombe the night before.

Crime scenes were established at both locations, and inquiries commenced, before the investigation was taken carriage of by Task Force Magnus detectives under Strike Force Lovelock.

Following extensive inquiries, about 9.45am today (Wednesday 13 September 2023), task force detectives arrested a 29-year-old man at a correctional facility in Bathurst.

The man was charged with fire firearm at dwelling-house with disregard for safety and specially aggravated break and enter & commit serious indictable offence-weapon.

He was remanded in custody to appear in Bathurst Local Court today.
