South Australia Police, Crime Stoppers and the Commissioner for Victims’ Rights are joining forces to investigate the murders of Robert Atkins, Trevor King and Jeff Mundy as part of Task Force Southern.
Today they unveiled three mobile billboards on Crime Scene Investigation vehicles promoting the significant rewards of up to $600,000 for information regarding these murders.
Officer in Charge of Major Crime, Detective Superintendent Des Bray said the billboards target people within the southern suburb’s criminal community who may have information.
“Task Force Southern is receiving cooperation from many people, with 81 calls to Crime Stoppers providing quality information to assist detectives so far,” Detective Superintendent Bray said.
Commissioner of Victims’ Rights, Bronwyn Killmier said – “Robert, Trevor and Jeff are three men who have families and friends that love them, they want answers and Victims of Crime SA (VOCSA) is proud to support this initiative in the hope we can help them.”
Crime Stoppers SA CEO, Nigel Smart, welcomed the opportunity to support the innovative local community engagement approach.
“We know these murders are most likely going to be solved by information provided from a person on the criminal fringe or a close associate of someone who is – so these tactics take our plea directly to people living in the southern suburbs to encourage them to speak up and make a difference,” Mr Smart said
“Crime Stoppers, as the trusted, independent link between the community and police, is perfectly positioned to help catch those responsible by encouraging people to share what they know without the need to say who they are or get involved.”
Detectives from Task Force Southern will be available to speak to members of the public who call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 tonight between 6pm and 9pm.
“Please call to speak with one of our detectives if you have any information, no matter how insignificant you think it may be,” said Detective Superintendent Bray.
“Anyone who is fearful about providing information or is concerned for their safety should call Crime Stoppers and ask to speak to a Task Force Southern detective, we will help you.”
