Tasmania’s construction industry continues to lead the nation recording the strongest annual growth in construction work done, according to the latest ABS statistics released today.
In the December 2018 quarter, total construction work done grew 20.1 per cent compared to the December 2017 quarter in trend terms.
Importantly, residential building work done in 2018 is estimated to have grown by 26.5 per cent compared to the previous year, to $905 million, which again demonstrates that the Tasmanian housing industry is leading the nation, growing at over three times higher than the national average.
At the same time, estimates of engineering construction work done also experienced the strongest annual growth in the nation, up 14.1 per cent over the year to the December 2018 quarter.
This sustained construction momentum reflects the strength of Tasmania’s construction industry, which is being supported by the Government’s record $2.6 billion infrastructure investment plan and our important initiatives to grow Tasmania’s housing supply and provide more affordable homes.
