Tasmania has recorded annual wage growth of 4.4 per cent in the September quarter 2023.
This was the third highest growth rate of all jurisdictions. This is compared to the national wage growth of 4.1 per cent.
This was underpinned by:
- Private sector wages growth of 4.7 per cent over the year; and
- Public sector wages grew 4 per cent over the year.
Treasurer, Michael Ferguson, said wages grew 2.2 per cent in just the Sept 2023 quarter alone.
“Tasmania’s annual private sector WPI growth of 4.7 per cent in the year to Sept 2023 was above the national average of 4.2 per cent. Growth in Tasmania’s private sector wage price index was the equal strongest of any state (equal with Queensland).
“With 54,900 more Tasmanians employed since 2014, our workforce is not just growing, but thriving.
“This is not a coincidence; the Rockliff Liberal Government’s clear plan to build a strong economy and deliver jobs growth is working. We will continue to do all we can to keep this momentum going.
“We have proven that our approach is working and we assure Tasmanians that we will not rest on our laurels.
We will continue to do all we can to maintain, and indeed, accelerate this momentum.”
