The July 2024 NAB Monthly Business Survey shows that the Rockliff Liberal Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is working, with the strongest business confidence and the most favourable business conditions in Australia.
Treasurer, Michael Ferguson, said the July report demonstrates the benefits of our positive agenda, which is providing businesses with an investment-friendly environment.
“We are focused on delivering on our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, which is targeted at ensuring Tasmanian businesses can get on with the job that they want to do,” Treasurer Ferguson said.
“The NAB report shows that Tasmania’s business conditions are by far superior to those in other states, scored at nearly double the business environment in second-ranked Queensland.
“Despite the national economic headwinds, thanks to the Albanese Government’s failure to address inflation, in Tasmania we are providing a business-friendly environment, which is driving renewed business confidence.
“Following the recent election, Tasmania is now benefiting from the stability and certainty that we promised, and as a result Tasmanian business confidence has surged past second-ranked Western Australia, and is now more than double.”
Treasurer Ferguson said these outcomes are underpinned by the healthy underlying economic conditions.
“The latest ABS data shows that Tasmania’s economic growth in recent years has been strong and we are the only State with positive exports growth,” Treasurer Ferguson said.
“Notwithstanding the challenges facing the national economy, Tasmania is experiencing nation-leading retail trade growth and our unemployment rate is at a record low of 4.0 per cent.
“Tasmania has come a long way from the dark days of the last Labor-Green Government, which resulted in an economic recession, soaring unemployment and rock bottom business confidence – and Tasmanians rightly rejected the negative agenda of the Labor Party at the recent election.
“Only the Rockliff Government’s Strong 2030 Plan for Tasmania’s Future has the necessary ingredients to support Tasmania’s businesses to invest, employ and grow.”
