Tasmania continues to punch above its weight when it comes to vocational education, new data shows.
Today, the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Centre for Vocational Education Research has released the latest apprentice and trainee statistics for the June 2022 quarter, and it is all good news for Tasmania.
As at 30 June 2022, there were 12,990 apprentices and trainees in-training in Tasmania.
This is an increase of 22.3 per cent compared with 12 months ago, and more than 50 per cent higher than the same time five years ago.
The data also showed there were 9,080 apprentice and trainee commencements in Tasmania over the 12 months to 30 June 2022 – an increase of 27.5 per cent, and an incredible 80 per cent higher than five years ago.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the Government is getting things done to build a strong economy, with more jobs and access to training.
“Once again, Tasmania is punching well above its weight, ahead of the national average growth in both commencements and apprentices and trainees in-training,” he said.
“These extraordinary results are proof of this Government’s commitment to ensure Tasmanians can access the training they need to get a job, and we thank Tasmania’s local businesses, training organisations, and VET teachers for their work supporting Tasmanian apprentices and trainees.”
These latest statistics follow last week’s ABS data that confirmed 55,000 more people are employed in Tasmania since 2014.
“Our Government has a plan for a strong economy that delivers jobs and enables us to build the health care system, the schools and the infrastructure Tasmanians deserve,” Premier Rockliff said.
