Tasmanian Christmas Carnival series ready to wow crowds

Jane Howlett,Minister for Sport and Recreation

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to ensuring the continuation of significant local sporting events across our State.

The TasCarnivals series is held annually over the summer months and is a highlight on the Tasmanian sporting calendar, adding to the vibrancy of our State.

Now that the borders have reopened, it’s exciting to welcome interstate athletes and their families back to the TasCarnivals series and the State.

The series includes events that offer cycling, running, and woodchopping.

As always, the TasCarnivals series has attracted a star-studded line up of local and national athletes.

Some athletes who have recently returned from the Tokyo Olympic Games will be competing, including cyclists Alexandra Manly, Matt Richardson, crowd-favourite King Island runner Stewart McSweyn, another local athlete in former Burnie Gift and Stawell Gift winner Jacob Despard, and Hobart sprinter and 2018 Commonwealth Games 4 x 100 metre relay team member Jack Hale.

The TasCarnivals series also offers a fantastic opportunity to explore Tasmania and support our local businesses, across the North-West, North, East Coast and here in the South of the State.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government was delighted to deliver $1.2 million over four years, being $300,000 each year for 2021-22 to 2024-25, to support the TasCarnivals series. This funding will help to support and further develop this important sporting event for years to come.

We wish all competitors the best of luck during the series and encourage all Tasmanians to support and enjoy what is a fantastic part of our summer sporting calendar.
