Tasmanian grain growers to help shape research investment

Grain growers in Tasmania’s Hagley and Launceston regions are invited to help direct how their levies should be invested in research, development and extension (RD&E) at a grower forum to be held in July.

GRDC will hold a , with growers, researchers, advisers, agronomists and industry representatives encouraged to attend.

The to directly engage with GRDC to help inform locally relevant RD&E investments.

GRDC grower relations manager – south Tim Bateman says NGN forums are an invaluable opportunity for growers to speak directly to GRDC staff and have a say in the future direction of RD&E.

“The NGN forums are one of the most direct way growers can tell GRDC what issues and opportunities they are observing and experiencing on their farms.” Mr Bateman says.

“NGN forums generate detailed discussion about crop productivity, farming systems management and sustainability, and we often hear new ideas for regionally specific investments.”

The forum will include a presentation on local GRDC investments so growers’ are aware of GRDC’s diverse range of projects, particularly those delivering outcomes that can help inform their decision-making on farm.

This specific forum also presents a unique opportunity as it coincides with a meeting.

“GRDC Southern Panel members are your grower representatives at GRDC and will be co-hosting this special ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Grower Network Forum,” Mr Bateman says.

“They are keen to understand the biggest issues grain growers face, as well as explore opportunities for innovation and growth, and identify where research, development and extension could help improve the profitability and sustainability of local grain production.”

NGN forums are free of charge and will also include an update from the GRDC Southern Panel.

Afternoon tea and a networking dinner will be provided. Registration is essential for catering purposes.
