Tasmanian premium food and beverage on show in China

This week, 14 premium Tasmanian food and beverage producers will be showcased at the annual China International Import Expo in Shanghai.

China is the largest import market in the world and remains Tasmania’s top export destination, valued at $1.35 billion per year.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has worked with producers to design a bespoke Tasmanian stand which will be supported by Tasmania’s Trade and Investment Advocate in China, Ms Vivian Zhao.

Premier and Minister for Trade, Jeremy Rockliff, said that Tasmania’s quality food and beverage will be on show to tens of thousands of visitors and buyers are expected to attend from all over China.

“Having 14 Tasmanian producers at the Australian Food & Agriculture Pavilion as part of the first Tasmanian delegation to this event is a testament to Tasmania’s state-wide commitment to growing exports,” Premier Rockliff said.

“Our top shelf spirits and world-class seafood will lead the charge with four distillers and six seafood producers being part of the team, which includes wine, fruit and non-alcoholic beverages.

“China remains an important market for Tasmania and this event follows trade events and delegations we have supported over the past two years to the United Kingdom, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Singapore and New Zealand.”

Hellyers Road, Lark, Lawrenny Estate and Old Kempton distilleries will join Hai Loong Seafood, Oscar Tasmanian Seafood, Soareast Australia, Tasmanian Seafoods, Three Friends Abalone and True South Seafood on the Tasmanian stand.

Rounding out the delegation are Juicy Isle Beverages, Nocton Vineyard, Tasmanian Tonic Company and Pinnacle Fine Foods.

Premier Rockliff said showcasing Tasmanian products at international tradeshows like China International Import Expo was an opportunity to highlight what we do so well to one of the largest markets in the world.

“We are committed to our goal of growing trade to $15 billion a year by 2050, and increasing our presence at trade shows and taking Tasmanian produce to the world will allow us to do so,” he said.

“Tasmania truly has what the world wants. By working closely with our local companies, we can help them to make their mark at these shows, expand their market reach, and grow their bottom lines.”

China International Import Expo is taking place in Shanghai from 5 to 10 November.
