Tasmania’s seafood training sector has received a significant boost with Pivot Maritime International’s world-renowned simulators now in use by Seafood and Maritime Training in Hobart.
Minister for Skills, Training and Workforce Growth, Felix Ellis, today launched new vessel training simulators that will reinforce Tasmania’s position as a leader for training in the seafood and maritime industry.
“Industry partners, supported by the Rockliff Liberal Government, have invested $350,000 in this training tool and it is fantastic that Tasmanian students can now receive quality training using new state-of-the-art technology produced right here in Northern Tasmania,” Minister Ellis said.
“Pivot’s Maritime simulators are being bought by navies and civil maritime operations around the globe which means that SMT is using some of the best available technology.
“SMT has done a great job committing its funds and bringing the funding partners together to secure these vessel simulators that will deliver more training in one of our most important industries – the seafood and maritime sector.
“These simulators put students at the centre of learning so they can work towards achieving their qualifications to both pilot and navigate a range of vessels commonly used in the industry.
“It means the students will be more prepared when they do take to the water and the industry will end up with more-highly skilled seafarers to lead the next generation seafood workforce.”
Minister Ellis said the Rockliff Liberal Government is committed to growing the economy and creating more jobs and backing Tasmania’s seafood industry will help support this future workforce.
