Students at West Launceston Primary School have learnt valuable life skills through an innovative program run by OzHarvest.
Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said ensuring our children have access to fresh, nutritious food was critical, and that’s exactly what the Tasmanian Government was delivering through its 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.
“It was wonderful to visit West Launceston Primary to engage with students as they participated in the OzHarvest FEAST Program,” Minister Palmer said.
“We are delivering a range of programs in schools to support students, including our successful School Lunch program, which we will progressively double to 60 schools by 2026.
“Positive outcomes have been reported from our School Lunch pilot program, with 30 schools enjoying dietician-approved recipes and locally sourced food being served up to students.”
School programs, such as FEAST, develop student understanding of health literacy and sustainability through interactive, curriculum aligned programs.
Amelia Berner, OzHarvest ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ FEAST Program Manager said OzHarvest is so grateful to be launching our free program to all schools across Tasmania.
“FEAST helps connect the dots between food waste and climate change and shows students what they can do to make a difference at home and at school,” Ms Berner said.
Through the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s future, the Tasmanian Government will continue to help to build health literacy and nutrition awareness for children and families in Tasmania, making our state the best place to live, work and raise a family.
