Tasmanian wine toast of Japan

Will Hodgman,Premier & Minister for Trade

Our state’s growing wine industry received another boost today with a showcase on Tasmanian sparkling and pinot noir presented to key Japanese customers as part of our Trade and Investment Mission to Japan.

Tasmanian wineries currently exporting and those hoping to commence exporting to Japan showcased their wines to Japanese importers, potential customers, wine industry media and representatives from Academie du Vin Tokyo, Japan’s oldest and largest wine school.

Tasmania’s wine industry is an increasingly important sector for the state, with our wines having a reputation of premium quality. Tasmanian wine producers already export around 18,000 bottles a year to Japan, with several more wineries looking to enter the Japanese market soon.

Today’s showcase included a masterclass conducted by Jennifer Doyle from Jansz Tasmania and Ms Yoshiko Takahashi, sommelier and wine educator at Academie du Vin Tokyo. Attendees were highly impressed with the quality of the Tasmanian wines featured, and we are optimistic this will result in additional sales in the coming years.

The Japan Trade and Investment Mission continues throughout this week with my Government continuing to actively promote Tasmania’s world class produce to Japan and the world.
