Tasmanians’ voices to be heard in Local Government Act review

Peter Gutwein,Minister for Local Government

Local government is incredibly important to Tasmanians, and the Hodgman Liberal Government’s major review of the Local Government Act will ensure it reflects and supports what communities expect from the local councils.

To ensure the views of all Tasmanians are heard during this review period, the Government has been consulting with the public, and to further assist people in having their views heard, public ‘drop-in’ sessions will be run across the State.

These sessions give Tasmanians the opportunity to engage directly with the team undertaking the Review, to ask questions and make submissions.

These sessions will run between 5.30pm and 7.30pm and be held at:

  • Gnomon Pavilion, Ulverstone, 13 February
  • Tamar Function Centre, Riverside, 14 February
  • Diamond Island Resort, Bicheno, 19 February
  • RACV/RACT Hotel, Hobart, 20 February

The Review into the Local Government Act is expected to be completed and in place before the end of 2020 to allow implementation before the next local government elections.

I encourage anyone who has a view about ensuring the Local Government Act meets current and future needs of communities across Tasmania, to engage with this important process.
