The winners of Defence’s Employer Support Awards in Tasmania, recognising civilian employers for their continued support of ADF reservist employees, was held in October at Anglesea Barracks.
The evening included a musical duet from the Army Band, accompanied by a flutist, as well a range of ADF capability displays by Navy, Amy and Air Force units.
Francesca Accessories, joint winner of the Private Sector category, employs reservist Private Licelle Hawkins. Speaking on behalf of the company, Hannah Vasicek spoke of their satisfaction with with Defence and what it meant to receive the Employer Support Award.
“As an employer of 70 women for the past decade, it was only two years ago that I was introduced to the Australian Defence Force when one of my senior leadership team members came to me and requested my support,” Ms Vasicek said.
“I have been astounded by Private Hawkins’ commitment to planning and forecasting, so that her absence at work is never at the detriment of the team.
“The two years she has spent at the Army has provided a fast-tracked leadership growth, which I don’t believe she would have achieved elsewhere. We are honoured to support Private Hawkins in her career both inside and outside our company.”
Head Joint Support Services Division Major General Douglas Laidlaw hosted the event attended by senior ADF officers and prominent Tasmanian employers and business officials. He commended winners and praised all nominated for their commitment to their ADF employees.
“Reservists are integral to Defence. The ADF relies on their outstanding contributions to ensure we can continue to protect Australia’s national interests,” Major General Laidlaw said.
“Tasmania has highlighted exemplary employers who are demonstrating significant support to their reservist employees. We thank you for your key contribution to Defence capability.”
Winners from the regional awards will now be considered for the national awards, to be held in Sydney in November.
