John Tucker,Liberal Member for Lyons

Tasmania has a new world-class mountain bike trail, with the $3.2 million St Helens Mountain Bike Trail opening today.

Comprising 110km on the doorstep of Bay of Fires and St Helens, this trail adds a stunning and unique experience to Tasmania’s world-renowned mountain bike track network.

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government understands the potential of mountain bike tourism as an important part of growing our visitor economy, contributing $1 million to this project through the Tasmanian Cycling Tourism Fund.

Excitement continues to build in the global cycling community about what is on offer here in Tasmania to mountain bikers. The St Helens Mountain Bike Trail adds to Tasmania’s reputation as a world-class destinations for this selective and high-yielding market segment.

We have seen the extraordinary effect that first-class trails in Derby and Maydena have had on the local economies, and St Helens is well-positioned to accommodate the needs of visitors either seeking adrenaline rides or a fun activity as part of the beach-side family holiday.

The Tasmanian Government’s $6 million Tasmanian Cycle Tourism Fund supports the Tasmanian Cycle Tourism Strategy, a key element in growing our visitor economy.
