Taverners support flood ravaged communities

Cricket Australia is pleased to acknowledge the outstanding work of our charity partners, Taverners Australia, in their ongoing response to the flood crisis in Queensland and NSW.

The Taverners local members were quick to provide financial and practical support to cricketers, cricket clubs and other members of their communities across the regions impacted in February and March.

Importantly, they are still raising money and finding ways to help these communities as well as those continuing to endure floods in more recent times.

Donations through the Taverners Queensland Cricket Foundation added $20,000 to the Queensland Grassroots Cricket Fund, helping to ensure funds were available to aid clean- up operations and ongoing repairs.

Clubs to benefit from the donation included the Wynnum Manly District Cricket Club, Jimboomba Cricket Club and Loganholme Cricket Club which all sustained substantial damage to their playing surfaces and surrounding practice facilities, while the South Brisbane Cricket Club will require significant funding to reconstruct the clubhouse.

Taverners Northern NSW, which takes in the flood hit town of Lismore, was also quick to respond to the needs of their flood ravaged local community.

TNNSW’s Chair Joanne Cooper said as well as helping with clean-up operations, the local organisations provided $1400 to replace equipment for a Little Athletics centre emphasising the organisations work across sports and communities.

TNNSW also reached out to local schools where it already provides sporting grants that enable disadvantaged students to compete in sporting competitions to provide further assistance.

James Allsopp, Cricket Australia’s Executive General Manager, Community Cricket, said: “We are proud to be associated with Taverners Australia and extremely grateful for the work they are doing to ensure cricket gets back on its feet in flood effected regions.”

Taverners Australia are seeking donations to help continue the support provided to cricket communities impacted by the floods.
