Taxi driver stabbed in attempted robbery at Waterloo, NSW

A man has been stabbed during an attempted armed robbery in Waterloo today.

About 10.45am (Tuesday 3 September 2019), a 50-year-old taxi-driver received a stab wound to the wrist on McEvoy Street, near the intersection of Elizabeth Street.

Police have been told that the man was stabbed by a female passenger as she exited the taxi and attempted to steal money.

She fled on foot from the scene.

Officers from South Sydney Police Area Command attended, along with NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The man was treated at the scene by emergency services before being conveyed to Sydney Eye Hospital. His injury is not considered life-threatening.

A crime scene has been established as officers investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A search for the woman is currently underway.

Local traffic diversions are in place.
