The Ticket Merchant, an Australian forerunner of all things ticketing, has some top tips for anyone still desperately searching for Taylor Swift concert tickets in Sydney this weekend.
- Do not buy tickets off Facebook, Marketplace or Gumtree – avoid all social media for ticket purchases
- Only buy off companies that have verified sales and payment options like PayPal / Google Pay
- Check all online reviews from companies selling the tickets
- Be very wary if grammar or spelling is not accurate
- If the price is too good to be true, IT IS!
The Ticket Merchant claims the Victorian Government’s The Major Events Act 2009 aimed at preventing ticket scalpers appeared to “have the opposite effect” after so many people were scammed in the lead up to the MCG concerts.
NSW has similar legislation in the form of the Fair Trading Act 1987 which regulates the supply, advertising and description of goods and services.
It was updated in 2018 to prohibit the resale of tickets to sporting or entertainment events for profit.
The legislation governs the sale of Taylor Swift concert tickets in NSW for the Sydney shows.
“With no viable options for purchasing tickets safely, fans are turning to the black market and social media in desperation,” Alex Coetzee, from The Ticket Merchant.
“This in turn leads to innocent people being scammed. Be sure you are not one of them,” he added.
