The NSW Teachers Federation welcomes the decision by the Berejiklian Government to fund a program of additional school-based support for students who have fallen behind in their studies because of the impact of Covid-19.
“There is no doubt that the disruption to normal school operations over the course of the Covid pandemic has had a negative impact on student learning and well-being,” said NSW Teachers Federation President Angelo Gavrielatos.
“This Budget allocation of $306 million for extra support in public schools will provide opportunities to implement a range of much-needed programs for students most disadvantaged by the Covid disruptions.”
Mr Gavrielatos said the union had been pursuing the establishment of extra targeted catch-up programs with the Government because of Covid since May this year.
He said the Federation would work with the Department of Education to ensure the most effective implementation of the program.
