Five ACT public primary schools have partnered with the University of Canberra – for a special study on the benefits of physical education throughout children’s lives.
This research project – Quality Physical Education in Early Childhood using a Personalised System of Instruction – is being conducted collaboratively with Kaleen Primary School, Ainslie School, Giralang Primary School, Charles Conder Primary School and Southern Cross Early Childhood School.
The study involves students in years K-2 working with their teachers and a specialised physical education and health coach – on a weekly basis.
It’s part of the UC Affiliated Schools Program – which engages 26 public schools and draws upon leading practice nationally and internationally, tailored to the ACT.
“The UC Affiliated Schools Program is a key initiative under the ACT’s Future of Education Strategy, designed to further empower our experienced teachers and school leaders and to develop and support our preservice educators,” said Minister for Education and Youth Affairs, Yvette Berry.
The two-year collaboration is being led by Dr John Williams from the University of Canberra.
“Dr Williams and his team are bringing a lot of value to the teaching and enjoyment of physical education across the participating schools, which will benefit children throughout their lives,” said Minister Berry.
