Mildura Rural City Council Libraries is offering a series of free workshops to help our region’s seniors learn to use technology more confidently.
Residents can book in for one-on-one or small group workshops on topics including how to use mobile phones, data and apps, understanding the internet and how to get the most out of laptops and tablets.
Councillor Stefano de Pieri said helping seniors become more confident using technology would provide numerous benefits – from better access to services through to improving inclusion.
“Modern technology allows us to communicate, stay in touch with each other or access services and information easier and more quickly than ever before,” Cr de Pieri said.
“While this is certainly a positive, it can also be a little intimidating for those not familiar or comfortable.
“The Seniors Tech Hub aims to breakdown these barriers by providing friendly, hands-on help sessions for seniors, equipping them with everything they need to know to more confidently use technology.”
Sessions will be available at all Mildura Rural City Council Libraries branches. Bookings can be made by calling 03 5018 8350.
The Seniors Tech Hub has been made possible thanks to the Victorian Government’s Digital Literacy for Seniors Program, which aims to:
- Improve wellbeing for people as they age through social connections and an inclusive community.
- Improve communication and access to information, which increases community participation and helps older people have more of a say in decisions affecting their lives.
- Increase access to programming to build skills and confidence among seniors.
