Our Family and Children’s Services have secured a grant from the Department of Education and Training to host a teddy’s bear picnic either in person or as a virtual event.
In conjunction with Council’s Community Wellbeing team, a picnic pack was developed filled with fun ideas and recipes to help make our local family and fluffy friend picnics go with a bang. The packs include:
- ideas for kids’ physical activities
- conversation starters to encourage meaningful discussion
- picnic recipes with some simple healthy suggestions
- the Knox Mental Health Card listing resources to support mental health and wellbeing
The grant also purchased copies of the book ‘Alfie’s Big Wish’ to be shared at these events. This book will facilitate discussion between children and family members around the meaning of friendship.
Children’s Week is an annual celebration of children where people across the globe take time to remember the human rights of children. The 2021 Children’s Week theme is: ‘Children have the right to choose their own friends and safely connect with others.’ This statement is informed by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), an international declaration of the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of every child.
Children’s Week is presented by Knox City Council in partnership with the Victorian Government. The project was made possible through a grant from the Department of Education and Training.
