One of Australia’s top business prodigies will visit Warrnambool to help inspire the next generation of young entrepreneurs.
Scott Millar will share the story of how he juggled school and business at the age of 14 to start up BOP Industries, where he makes and sells customised holographic displays.
Scott will be the guest speaker at a special event presented by The Ideas Place at Emmanuel College on Thursday July 25.
Funded by LaunchVic, the Ideas Place is a Warrnambool City Council initiative in partnership with Runway, the Moyne and Corangamite Shire Councils, Deakin University, South West TAFE and the Great South Coast Food and Fibre Council.
Also at the event, visual effects artist Richard Pritchard will share insights into how it’s possible to live in south-west Victoria and work on blockbuster Hollywood movies while not-for-profit organisation Upstart will help students find opportunities to carve their own path to become the next world changing entrepreneur from this region.
Ideas Place Go-to Guy Gareth Colliton said that the “Changemakers” event aimed to demonstrate to the region’s youth some of the many avenues open to them.
“Throughout the year, the Ideas Place is presenting more than 30 workshops and events aiming to show clever people across the South West how to take their good business idea and get it off the ground, step-by-step” he said.
“We thought it was really important to have a signature event for high school students to show them that there is an exciting world of opportunity out there for them.
“As Scott demonstrates, you don’t have to wait until you have graduated uni or even finished high school.
“If you have an idea you are passionate about, then there are programs to help you get started straight away.”
The event will run from 10am until 11.30am.
