Teen charged over alleged assault, stalking in Belmore

A teenager has been charged following investigations into an alleged assault and several stalking incidents in Sydney’s south west last year.

About 11pm on Saturday 8 December 2018, a 31-year-old woman was walking along Leylands Parade at Belmore when she noticed a man walking closely behind her.

The woman managed to run away; however, it’s alleged she was grabbed by the same man in another incident on Leylands Parade on Monday 10 December.

The man allegedly covered the woman’s mouth and attempted to drag her towards a unit complex, before she was able to escape and call for help.

Both incidents were reported to police and officers from Campsie Police Area Command commenced an investigation.

A review of CCTV footage has revealed other women were allegedly followed by the man near Belmore Railway Station in December.

Following inquiries, and a public appeal for assistance, a 17-year-old male attended Bankstown Police Station about 12.30am today (Thursday 14 February 2019).

The Belmore teen was charged with common assault; and stalking/intimidation with intent to cause fear of physical or mental harm (x2).

He was given conditional bail to appear in a children’s court on Thursday 7 March 2019.
