Wyndham Libraries proudly hosted a successful online teenage Chess Simultaneous Tournament on 17 January.
The tournament featured 14 participants aged between 12 and 19, who tested their chess skills against guest player, Woman Grand Chess Master Julia Ryjanova.
A Chess Simultaneous Exhibition is a unique opportunity for a player to meet a Grandmaster over a chessboard. This exciting way to run a Chess tournament was entertaining for all to watch. Commentary was also provided on the game and the young people enjoyed having their game analysed.
The tournament created drama and suspense as participants showcased their chess skills.
Wyndham City Deputy Mayor and Learning City portfolio holder Cr Jasmine Hill said: “It was inspiring to watch the participants test their skills against the best and watch the Grand Master challenge the skills of the participants.”
There were 14 concurrent chess games played during the two-hour Teen Chess Simultaneous online exhibition. Thathsi Rajapaksha was selected as the ‘Best of Play’ and Aadav Vijayakumar had the strongest game opening.
Remarkably Prabal Virk achieved a draw and Arnav Aggarwal, Abeejeet Pulla, Bhavana Yerravajjala and Thathsi Rajapkasha won on time.
“Wyndham City is committed to providing events for young people in our community that encourage and foster skill development such as this inaugural Teen Chess Simultaneous Exhibition,” stated Cr Hill.
