A 16-year-old boy has been charged after he allegedly aimed a compound bow and arrow at a police officer following a traffic stop yesterday.
About 2.40pm Friday (23 August 2019), an officer attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command stopped a silver BMW on the Kamilliroi Highway.
The car was driven by a 21-year-old woman, with the 16-year-old boy sitting in the front passenger seat.
It is alleged they switched seats before the officer approached.
When the pair got out of the car, the teenager reached into the vehicle and obtained a compound bow and arrow, which he allegedly pointed at the officer.
The officer drew his firearm and instructed the teenager to drop the weapon, and he complied.
The teenager tried to reach for the weapon again before being directed to move away from it.
When the officer tried to arrest the teenager, he was hindered by the 21-year-old woman, allowing the teenager to flee.
Further inquiries were conducted and police attended a residential property on Maitland Street, Breeza, where the teenager was located and arrested.
He was taken to Gunnedah Police Station where he was charged with use weapon to resist arrest, assault and other actions against police officer.
He was bail refused to appear at a children’s court today Saturday 24 August 2019.
