A teenage boy has been charged and a woman remains under guard in hospital, following a pursuit in Sydney’s north west yesterday.
Just after 9.15pm (Thursday 16 July 2020), officers from Ryde Police Area Command attempted to stop a Lexus 4WD travelling north along Spurway Street, Ermington, due to its manner of driving.
The vehicle failed to a stop and a pursuit was initiated. Subsequent checks of the vehicle revealed it was reported stolen from a house in Epping on Monday (13 July 2020).
The vehicle continued through several local streets, before the pursuit was terminated.
With assistance from PolAir, the Lexus was sighted on Captain Strom Street, where the two occupants allegedly exited and fled into nearby bushland.
A short time later, a Hyundai Tuscon was stopped at the intersection of Rippon Road and Kissing Point Road at Dundas, about 9.50pm.
A 16-year-old boy and 23-year-old woman were arrested and taken to Ryde Police Station. The woman was taken from the station to Ryde Hospital for observation.
Police will allege the teenager booked a rideshare service to pick him up on Brand Street, Telopea, before picking up the woman in McKillop Place, Carlingford, shortly after they fled from the Lexus 4WD.
The teenager was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly and never licenced person drive vehicle on road.
He was refused bail to appear before a children’s court today (Friday 17 July 2020).
Inquiries continue.
