Temporary interruption to MBA games at Mildura Sporting Precinct

Mildura Basketball Association (MBA) games at the recently opened Mildura Sporting Precinct will be temporarily moved to the Hothouse Stadium to allow improvements to be made to the new playing surface.

Council Acting Chief Executive Officer Martin Hawson said it was believed dust from the surrounding area was impacting on grip levels on the indoor playing surface, which was now being addressed.

“Due to the surrounding open area we’re aware that at times a thin film of dust is settling on the indoor playing surface, which is leading to grip levels on the court that don’t meet our standards,” Mr Hawson said.

“We’re looking a different cleaning methods and preparations to rectify this issue and expect to have it resolved quickly, allowing MBA games to once again return to our region’s premier indoor sporting venue.”

Mildura Mayor Liam Wood said Mildura Sporting Precinct staff would continue working closely with sporting groups.

“It’s been great to see the close relationship that has already developed between our Precinct staff and local sporting groups, and I’d like to thank the Mildura Basketball Association in particular for their understanding,” Cr Wood said.

“As we’ve seen in recent weeks, there’s been an amazingly positive response from the various sporting groups that have used this precinct, and I’m sure this minor issue will be resolved quickly allowing us to once again see Mildura Basketball Association games at the venue.”

Mildura Basketball Association President Leigh Anderson said he looked forward to Association games returning to the Mildura Sporting Precinct.

“It’s encouraging to see the quick action being taken to address this temporary issue and we look forward to returning our games to the Mildura Sporting Precinct in the near future,” Mr Anderson said.

“We understand given this is such a new venue that there will be some teething issues that can’t be discovered until play starts at the venue, but remain fully supportive of the precinct as our new home.”
