Tender award paves way for Bundaberg’s Big Hospital Build

JOINT STATEMENT
  • CPB Contractors has been awarded the tender to lead the design stage of the new Bundaberg Hospital.
  • The $1.2 billion new hospital will deliver 121 new beds, extending capacity to the Wide Bay region, while supporting 2,880 jobs.

The Palaszczuk Government has today announced CPB Contractors as managing contractor for stage one of the new $1.2 billion Bundaberg Hospital.

The Premier joined the Health Minister Shannon Fentiman and Member for Bundaberg Tom Smith to mark the major announcement, which is the next big step towards construction.

The new Bundaberg Hospital will deliver more than 121 new beds across a range of improved and expanded services such as intensive care, coronary, medical, surgical, paediatric, rehabilitation and mental health units.

It will also have an expanded emergency department and enhanced clinical support services.

It is one of three brand new hospitals announced under the Health and Hospitals Plan for some of Queensland’s fastest growing communities.

Early works to establish access to the new hospital site via an extension of Johanna Boulevard, near Eggmolesse Street, were completed in March 2023.

Design and enabling works will continue this year ahead of major construction in 2024.

The new Bundaberg Hospital is expected to be completed in the second half of 2027, weather and construction conditions permitting.

The Palaszczuk Government has now awarded more than $8 billion in hospital tenders to deliver over 1,570 extra hospital beds, including:

  • BESIX Watpac to deliver the $710 million Ipswich Hospital Stage 2 Expansion, delivering an additional 200 beds
  • Built QLD to deliver the $465 million QEII Jubilee Hospital Expansion, delivering an 112 additional beds
  • John Holland to deliver the $530 million Logan Hospital Stage 2 Expansion project, delivering an additional 112 beds.
  • John Holland to deliver the $350 million Princess Alexandra Hospital Expansion, delivering an additional 249 beds.
  • Hansen Yuncken to deliver the $250 million Cairns Hospital Expansion project delivering an additional 96 beds.
  • BESIX Watpac to deliver the $250 million Mackay Base Hospital Expansion, delivering an additional 128 beds.
  • BESIX Watpac to deliver the $530 million Townsville University Hospital Expansion, delivering an additional 143 beds.
  • John Holland to deliver Stage 1 of the $1.3 billion new Toowoomba Hospital, delivering an additional 118 beds.
  • Hutchinson Builders to deliver the $360 million Prince Charles Hospital Expansion, delivering 93 extra beds.
  • Multiplex Constructions to deliver the $1.148 billion Redcliffe Hospital expansion, delivering 204 extra beds.
  • Multiplex Constructions to deliver the $1.3 billion new Coomera Hospital, delivering 404 extra beds.
