The Tasmanian Liberal Government is getting on with delivering a new Devonport campus for the North West Support School (NWSS), with the release of the tender for the architectural consultants today.
Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said the Tasmanian Government wants to ensure students with disability have access to the best, modern facilities that cater to their diverse needs.
“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are committed to building a brand new purpose-built NWSS in Devonport and delivering significant upgrades to the Burnie campus,” Minister Palmer said.
“Support schools cater for students with significant disability, offering comprehensive individual learning in a caring and respectful environment.”
The 2024-25 Budget included an additional $40 million over four years for the two projects, with total funding now $65 million.
Following extensive school and community consultation earlier this year, the proposed site of the new campus for NWSS Devonport is 3-9 Mersey Main Road, adjacent to Spreyton Primary School.
It is expected that the architectural consultants for the new NWSS campus at Spreyton will be appointed in the new year and commence the site master planning process.
The tender for the NWSS Burnie campus was also recently released and the successful tenderer for this project is expected to be appointed in the new year.
